So today in history class I learned a little bit of the Muslim religion. I honestly found it quite interesting. The Chapter I'm reading right now is called "Islam vs. Christendom" It mainly discusses the spread of Islam and the rise of Mohammed. Here is a bit from the book I found pretty interesting.
Mohammed's Claim
At the age of 40 Mohammed began to claim that he was receiving revelations from the angel Gabriel. Mohammed at first feared that he had lost his mind or become demon-possesed, but he eventually became convinced that he was the specially appointed prophet of Allah, his name for the one and only god. Allah, said Mohammed, is the same as the One the Jews and Christians call God. I,said Mohammed, am Allah's choice to bring to men the perfect and complete truth. I,said Mohammed, am the last in a series of prophets that includes Adam,Noah, Abraham,Moses, and Jesus. All who believe in Allah and me and do all I teach, preached Mohammed, will spend eternity in Heaven. (I love this next part) Whereas over 500 people saw the resurrected Jesus Christ, no one witnessed Mohammed's supposed encounters with the angel Only Mohammed saw the visions and heard the voices. People had to accept or reject his claim solely on the basis of his forceful personality or the appeal of his teaching In this paragraph we can learn so much! In the beginning it sais that "Allah is the same One the Jews and Christians call God" Is it possible to have the same God with a different name? Yes! If you want to say "Hello" In english it's just "hello" If you want to say "hello" in Spanish it is "Hola" But isn't it the same thing? Yes. But if you say "hello" in english and you say "adios" in Spanish it's different right? yes. What Mohammed taught is like that. It wasn't right. You know why? Well look at the part where he sais "I am the last in a series of prophets that includes Adam,Noah,Abraham,Moses, and Jesus. Catch this...Jesus propheside but He was not a prophet. So that was one reason he was wrong. Also it sais in the Bible, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man cometh unto the Father but by Me." Mohammed taught that if someone beleived in Allah and him they would receive eternal life. But the true Book sais the only way to Heaven is through Christ. And look also at the part in bold. This is the best part! Over 500 people saw the ressurected Christ! NOT ONE saw or heard Mohammed's visions. So how can we know that they are true? It even said that people had to decide to follow him or not by the way he taught! They didn't know whether or not they could trust him. But Jesus also says in His Word that you should trust in Him and He will never let you down. There are so many other things that I could say about this! Maybe I'll do a "Part 2" :-)
