Slave Part 2

I am thankful for the people in my life who tell me the truth :). This evening someone was reading my last poem, "Slave" and gave me some constructive criticism. I decided after his suggestions that I should further expound what I meant by that poem. It's about sin, obviously. However, from an outsider's point of view, it could look very sensual. It looks like the whole poem is about struggling with sexual sins. And it is. But it's also about lying. It's about a bad attitude. It's about stealing. It's about anger. It's about gossip. It's about alcohol addiction. It's about anything and everything that Satan entices us with. It's about the small things that we find pleasure in that make us fall. I really don't care what it is. Sin is sin. I've learned that in my own life. You do something, small, and you don't get caught! No one realized that you just lied (after all, wasn't it just exaggerating the story a little bit?), so you continue, getting out of all sorts of trouble that you found yourself in. No one knows about that jealousy eating you up. But it's so hard to make the choice to just be happy with your life the way it is! So you keep on comparing yourself. More than just sexual immorality, "Slave" is my perspective on sin. It's a visual picture of what happens to us when we keep giving into what Satan wants us to do/say/think. Thinking that you can only be enslaved by the "really bad sins", some people are careful around those areas, but completely let their guard down around their gossiping workmates. The Bible says that in God's eyes, all sins are the same. That's it. No exceptions! Every sin is on the same playing field, gossiping and murder go hand in hand. They both enslave. They both have enough power to keep you trapped in Satan's chains. That was my purpose in Slave, to show people that sin is powerful. All Satan needs is a crack in your door to jump into your life and harm you, and more than that, he wants to destroy you. He wants to kill you! I would say I'm sorry for being so blunt, but I'm not. Your sin is pleasing the Devil. But nevertheless, God! He has so much grace, so much love, so much kindness. There is nothing that He can't forgive! What a wonderful thought, what a wonderful peace to have! There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. No matter what your struggle is, "big or small", don't keep tasting it, for that is what will bind you. Be a slave, be a slave for righteousness.
