The Great Masterpiece

I'm sitting here listening to Brandon Heath, musing over thoughts that have been raiding my mind for the past few days. Every so often, I'll sit down, with my notebook and pen, determined to write something that will perfectly describe what I'm feeling. Not in paragraphs, but poetry. I love writing poetry, but for some reason, I've lost my flow. Oh, at times I'll write something pretty good, and know that what I wanted to say has come across the way i wanted times, but that hasn't happened in a while. So the other day I went out into my balcony, watching the shadows change as the sun was setting, listening to the soft whir of cars going by mixed in with gentle breezes of the wind running through the trees. I was determined to write something amazing, something that would encourage people, that would have the most amazing rhymes. This is (after some editing) what I came up with.

My heart struggles as time and time again
I try to capture this moment in words.
But nothing good enough comes to mind, again
And my verses seem shallow and absurd.
I want to shout out and tell of all this beauty,
And appreciate the small wonderst silently....
All at the same time.

I have so much in me that I want to release,
But I haven't the skills or tools.
Yet my love for You doesn't seem to be enough,
Like a crown without any jewells.
How I want to make what is in my heart something visible.
Yet how would it describe Your beauty?
How could it capture this love from your people indivisible,
Your awesome power and might and glory?

While my pen may never write the perfect lines,
Or my brush create the perfect piece,
Maybe my life shall be the piece that stands the test of time,
As my inner beauty I release.
I'll focus on my creation in life and not rhyme,
So that my life might be the Great Masterpiece.

Before I express my thoughts,
May I first enhance myself for my God!
Not to be seen or awed
But to give the Creator joy in His Masterpiece.

This is what my prayer has become. That my life is in the pursuit of glorifying my God and not my talents! While God wants us to excercise our gifts, how much more should we be working on ourselves? We are God's creation, He is the Gardener. He plants us, and we grow where He has put us. Even if we are the cactus in the middle of the desert (not the most comfortable of surroundings), who knows of the lives we might save because of the Living Water we carry? In fact, did you know (thank you Google :-) ) that a cactus only grows flowers after it's matured? May we first make sure that we have the Water in us before we grow flowers! People could look at the cactus in many different ways, but that's how I see it tonight...
